05:29 pm - Russia
Russia is awesome. We just finished our first week at an orphan camp. The children are so precious. One little girl, Kristina, that was holding my hand told the translator, that for the moment it was like she had a mother. Her father killed her mother in front of her older brother Lubamir. He told the police what happend and now the father vows that when he gets out of jail he will kill Lubamir too. Their grandparents still have right to them so they can't even be adopted. That is a huge problem over here. Many of the grandparents have rights to the children, but they won't take care of them, they won't ever visit them, they don't love them or even care about their well being, but they won't terminate their rights. I think it is completely unfair especially when a few of the children in these situations have families that are interested in adopting them, but unable to do so.
I hope everyone is having a good summer...

03:21 pm - Goldwater
I just found out today that I won the Goldwater scholarship. I am so excited. It makes all of those painful hours putting together that scholarship worth it. On other notes, my spring break was awesome. My polo team didn't do as well as we had hoped, but the rest of the break was rather relaxing. I also got to go camping for a day which was fun. Now I am going to be thrilled when I finish my poster for student research days...

02:38 pm - Hm..
Wow, I have been so busy since I got back to college. My days generally begin before 8 and last past 12. There just are enough hours during the day. I am getting in shape for polo, taking the heaviest load of classes I have ever take (generally I have several hours of homework due in every class every day) I have started my project lab. My group, which is an awesome group, is building a 10kHz adjustable wien bridge oscillator in just 4 weeks. My goldwater scholarhip application has been selected to move up to the national level so I have been working on revisions. I had to teach or rather show a grad student the image aquistion stuff that I have been working on in the lab (that was rather nerve racking).
My best news is: I am definately going to Russia this summer for the month of July!!

08:34 am - Goldwater
Today is the due date for the goldwater scholarship. Finally!!! That means no more making decisions, no more revisions, no more fixing stuff, no more feeling inept b/c I don't know what I want to do with the rest of my life, no more making stuff up... unless mine gets chosen to go on which means the committee will send back stuff that needs to be changed :(, if only they weren't allowed to do that...

02:38 pm - Update...
So I figure its about time for an update... This semester has been tons of fun. Our polo team has done awesome and has a very good change of making it to nationals this year. The only thing that has really stunk this semester is the fact that I have been sick for the solid past month. I finally went to the doctor today and it turns out that I have allergies. ICK!! As for classes Russian is awesome. I am definately going to continue taking it next semester. По-моему Россия красивая страна!!! The rest of my classes are more of the type that I just there. In differential equeations, we just had the most evil test ever, but I think I did alright on it. I am glad that its nearly time for a break...

12:24 pm - Update....
I really haven't posted for a while and amazingly enough I have found myself with some extra time (thanks to rain flooding our polo arena) Anyways life is pretty good. This past weekend I went up to Colorado to play CSU. There horses got hurt due to bad hay so we didn't get to play a full game :( but while we were there we ended up going into the Rockie Mountain National park in Estes which was amazing. One of the guys in our club works there over the summer so he took us to some great spots and we saw all kinds of wild animals way up close. There were elk, mountain goats, a wild bunny and a pack of coyotes. Anyways as for polo for the next three weekends we are going to be traveling to Santa Fe, Austin, and Burelson. Since I have become an officer I have realized what a pain in the neck our coach is. As sad as it is I have never seen a grown man act as poorly as he does. He acts like a two year old if he doesn't get his way, he attacks people for reasons that only he knows, and he is more concerned about having power than anything else. Unfortunately I already have people that want me to run for president next year but the coach makes it so unpleasant that I am not sure that I want to.
Anyways, all of my classes are great. My favorite is russian - it is such a pretty language. Its interesting but I am picking it up alot faster and better than I ever picked up Spanish. My teacher is so good and she really thinks that I can become a fluent speaker.
My research is going well. I am getting to play around with some interesting and fun pieces of equipment. Today I think I am going to teach myself how to use the image aquisition toolbox in Matlab.
In other news I have decided to apply for the Goldwater Scholarship so that process will also be taking up some of my time.
well thats about all that I can think of....

09:21 pm - hmm...
Well so far classes are pretty cool. My teachers all seem really nice though some of my profs have really bad accents that make it rather difficult to understand them, which is bad when they are teaching differential equations. Russian should be fun but I already have spent three hours doing homework after just one class (ick). After that I had a four hour polo officers meeting, which wasn't actually too bad...

11:18 am - Yay
I'm back in Lubbock and finally completely moved in.
Roommate=coolness
suitemates=seem nice (don't know them yet)
Yesterday, I went to the engineering building to talk to a professor and nobody recognized me. One day before I left I let my sister's coworker cut my hair and she definitely cut it. Her idea of a trim and my idea of a trim are completely different. It looks cool but it doesn't really go back into a pony tail which stinks and I haven't yet decided if its a good or bad thing that nobody recognizes me.
Anyways, classes start on Monday, which is good. Unfortunately the books for my math classes were ridiculously expensive. Each one of my three math classes only required one book, but each one of the books was over a hundred. Total book expenses = $520 ick...
